Have you ever noticed how a dog can turn an ordinary day into something bright, just by standing near the kitchen door and watching you chop carrots? That quiet companionship is where Healthy Cooking for Your Dog began. Not in a test kitchen, but in everyday moments with a pup who taught me that love can be simple, nourishing, and shared.
I wrote this cookbook as a love story for people who want more time with their dogs, and as a way to give back to animals who deserve a second chance.

At the time, I did not understand the importance of food as healing. With a demanding career, I could barely make dinner for myself. So, I started planning weekly meals, and that plan began to include Lewie’s meals too.
This cookbook uses simple, easy ingredients. The first section is all about basics, prep them in advance so you can turn them into complete meals in minutes. You will also find a clear list of safe herbs and foods, and a list of what not to feed your dog. In the end, you can cook one base recipe, season a portion for yourself, and keep the do not feed spices and herbs out of your dog’s bowl.
Think of it as dogs giving back to the world. This book brings better health and helping animals together. It helps you feed your dog with intention and joy, and it helps rescues and sanctuaries with every purchase.
You will also find fun recipes for special occasions. Barkuterie boards and pupcakes. A treats section, frozen pupsicles, and main entrées that are all easy to make.
My favorite memories are of Lewie sitting at my feet while I stirred a pot, hopeful and patient. He loved almost everything, except peas. I still smile when I set peas aside, a tiny act of remembering. This book is full of moments like that, small rituals that add up to a life well loved.
I authored this book to give back in many ways. 100% of net proceeds support shelters, rescues, and sanctuaries that provide medical care, food, and safe refuge. When you make a recipe, you are also helping an animal you may never meet. That connection matters. It turns the bowl on your floor into a circle of care that stretches far beyond your home.
I hope you will create and cherish a lifetime of memories with the dogs, animals and people in your life. Cook a meal your dog will be excited to see. Take a longer walk. Sit in the sun together. Share a lesson you have learned about love, patience, or presence. Then pass that care forward to animals who are still waiting for their person.
With gratitude for you and for every beautiful animal who has walked beside us,
Holly
